Expert summary
Formula One (abbreviated to F1) is the highest class of open wheeled auto racing. The word ‘formula’ in the name designates a set of rules to which all cars and participants must conform. The F1 world championship consists of a series of races known as Grand Prix, held on purpose-built circuits or closed city streets. The Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo is the most famous among those. The results of all the races are combined to determine two annual World championships, one for drivers and the other for constructors. The cars go at tremendous speeds and their performance depends on electronics, aerodynamics, suspension and tyres. The traditional center of Formula One is Europe.
